FAQ
Assessing the Nutrient Density of Animal Proteins:
A Project by Edacious & the Nutrient Density Alliance
Q1: What is the purpose of this project?
A1: The project aims to explore the impact of different animal production systems on nutritional outcomes by analyzing the nutrient density of animal products from Nutrient Density Alliance (NDA) members and comparing them to conventionally produced retail samples.
Q2: Who can participate in this study?
A2: Participation is limited to members of the NDA only.
Q3: What products will be analyzed in this study?
A3: The study will be conducted in two phases:
Phase 1 (October 2024 - January 2025): Chicken, Pork, Beef, Milk, Yogurt
Phase 2 (February to April 2025): Cheese, Butter, Eggs
Q4: How many samples do participants need to submit?
A4: Participants must submit a batch of 6 samples for a singular retail product.
Q5: What kind of analysis will be performed on the samples?
A5: The Edacious Lab will perform nutrient density analysis, including over 100 nutrients such as fats, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and heavy metals.
Q6: Will participants receive individual results?
A6: Yes, each participant will receive a report of their samples via their own account on the Edacious software platform, including a comparison against USDA benchmarks and anonymous retail samples.
Q7: How will the results be shared publicly?
A7: The NDA will receive a project dashboard to share anonymized results with the public. Participants can opt-in to publicly share their results on this dashboard.
Q8: What is the timeline for the project?
A8: Key dates include:
October 25, 2024: Project Sign Up Deadline
November 8, 2024: Deadline to submit samples
November to December, 2024: Nutrient Density Analysis
January, 2025: Report out and publish project results
Q9: How can interested parties sign up for the project?
A9: Interested parties must:
Be a member of the Nutrient Density Alliance
Submit information via a Google form to confirm participation
Wait for the Edacious team to reach out with further instructions
Already a member and ready to sign up? Or ready to become a member and then sign up? Please email Lindsey Johnson at ljohnson@soilclimatealliance.org and she can initiate the process
Q10: Is there a cost associated with participation?
Cost to submit and have samples analyzed is $1800
Shipping costs (ranging from $80 - $200) are not included and must be covered by the participant
