Nutrient Density Resources

For Eaters

Everyone eats. And the first step to becoming more involved in what you’re eating is to understand the relationship between the soil and the food that comes from it. The resources below will help you engage the direct connection between your health and the health of our food system. Together, we can drive demand for a regenerative future.

ARTICLE HIGHLIGHTS:

  • What are soil microbes? They are found in the rhizosphere (the soil layer where plant roots interact with microorganisms) and play a vital role in promoting plant growth and providing nutrients to plants. These microbes help plants access nutrients, fix nitrogen, and produce antioxidants, among other functions.

  • Conventional farming practices, like soil tillage and the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, have depleted soil microbes, leading to nutrient-deficient crops.

  • The connection between soil health and human health, with soil microbes influencing the gut microbiome and potentially protecting against diseases.

  • Scientists are conducting research to understand which soil microbes are beneficial to human health and how to promote their growth.

STUDY HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Study conducted by researchers to explore the relationship between a high nutrient density diet and the experience of hunger.

  • The study involved 768 participants who had switched from their previous usual diet to a high nutrient density diet.

  • The participants completed an internet-based survey that assessed physical symptoms, emotional aspects, and location of hunger.

  • The results showed significant differences in the experience of hunger between the high nutrient density diet and the previous usual diet; a high micronutrient density diet mitigates the unpleasant aspects of the experience of hunger even though it’s lower in calories.

  • Participants reported experiencing less hunger, fewer physical symptoms, and improved emotional well-being on the high nutrient density diet.
